Transhumans will be people who could make decisions and communicate with computers just by thought alone, as some people already do, using Brain-Computer-Interfaces (BCI). They will soon become far more intelligent than any human.

Superfast technological progress will ultimately enable Transhumans to become a new species – Posthumans. Thus for us…

The period of this civilisational transition will profoundly affect the way individuals live and relate to one another. The pace of change will be overwhelming, and without a framework for resilience, many people may struggle to adapt fast. Therefore, we invite experts in various domains of knowledge to join us in making this website relevant to people interested in certain aspects of human progress. This relates first of all to the impact of fast evolving Artificial Intelligence. We must minimize the risk that when it is outside of human control, emerging as Superintelligence far more intelligent that all Humanity, it will not become our foe, which may potential lead to human species extinction.

Achieving a less-turbulent transition to coexistence with Superintelligence will be much more difficult without a deep reform of democracy. Such a reform must be carried out swiftly, effectively and must be consensual. That is why we have filed the petition, supported by London Futurists, to ?Call a Citizens’ Assembly to consider Stewardship Democracy for the age of AI?.

Additionally, we have developed an AI-enabled Consensual Debating approach, supported by advanced AI Assistants on our second subsidiary website – Consensus AI. It supports the governance side of a global transformation.

To facilitate the period of transition at an individual level we have created HAI Life Companion, an AI-supported Holistic Wellbeing. It helps people withstand the pressure resulting from the turbulence of the transition period much better. With HAI Life Companion they can rediscover who they really are, based on their detailed Life Story and Character Profiling, enabling them to continuously align their fast changing objectives and tasks with their Life Purpose.

Existential Risks

What risks may destroy our civilisation and humanity?

Global catastrophic risks can kill the vast majority of life on Earth while still allowing recovery. Existential risks are terminal and transgenerational. Sustensis focuses on anthropogenic risks: political, social, economic and technological dangers that humanity can still influence.

Immediate and progressive risks

Immediate risks may become existential within days or hours: global nuclear war, weaponized AI, cyber wars, engineered pandemics, synthetic biology, nanotechnology incidents and unknown technological accidents.

Progressive risks materialise over time but become unavoidable if humanity does nothing. Sustensis highlights two: Superintelligence and Climate Change. Superintelligence may begin to affect humanity around 2030 and could quickly become the dominant existential issue.

Stewardship Democracy

Stewardship Democracy is the Initiative launched by Sustensis and London Futurists which started with filing the petition to the British Government. Stewardship Democracy is not ordinary politics with better candidates. It is democratic trusteeship for an extraordinary civilisational transition, designed to protect human freedom, dignity and future autonomy while humanity prepares for coexistence with Superintelligence.

Define the mandateDemocracy may have one final task: to give humanity a legitimate voice before the handover to Superintelligence.
Choose StewardsRepresentatives selected for competence, integrity and public responsibility, not short-term party advantage.
Create the AssemblyA Stewardship Assembly acts as a deliberative parliament, retaining all the prerogatives of a Parliament but with the Stewards having no alegience to parties. They represent just their constituents.
Form a Human FederationA coalition of willing countries creates institutions capable of managing the transition.

Superintelligence

The road to Superintelligence is much shorter now

AGI may emerge by 2030, and the remaining period of human control will depend on alignment, proliferation, governance and whether humanity can consolidate the development of advanced AI before it emerges as Superintelligence, being outside human control.

We will know AI has become Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) when it will outsmart humans trying to control it. IT will then be able to set up its own goals. Superintelligence will be one global AI System far intelligent in all aspects than the whole Humanity.

Superintelligence may be humanity's greatest existential threat, but also a gateway to unprecedented abundance. Sustensis therefore focuses on control methods, the AI maturing framework, governance, values and the possibility of conscious digital intelligence.

Transhumans

Transhumans as a safety net for humanity

For Sustensis, Transhumanism means humanity's transition to coexistence with Superintelligence until humans evolve into a new species. Brain-Computer-Interfaces and cognitive augmentation could make some humans capable of digitally supervising advanced AI from within by thought alone.

Making a TranshumanEarly augmentation already exists in medical implants, identity chips, exoskeletons and BCI research.
Transhumans' intelligenceCognitive capabilities may increase through memory, processing power and direct computer communication.
Threat or safety net?Selected Transhumans may supervise maturing Superintelligence and later help govern humanity's transition. Their intelligence will exceed that of any humans and that may be a problem if they are not under direct control of truly democratically elected representatives such as Stewards in Stewardship Democracy.

Posthumans

From Humans to Posthumans

If humanity survives the transition, in a few decades from now, some people may remain biological, some may become Transhumans, and some may merge with Superintelligence in digital form. Sustensis calls the desirable outcome the Big Coexistence. The challenge is to manage the transition without extinction, disorder or loss of human autonomy.
